PROGRAM OVERVIEW

As an aspiring artist at Carson-Newman, you’ll be challenged to think innovatively and to master problem solving skills as you cultivate your individual voice. In whichever art emphasis area you choose, you’ll start with basic techniques and theory at the lower levels of study and progress to considerable freedom of personal expression at higher levels of study. Close mentoring and guidance by faculty throughout the entire course of the program is a priority as you build your own portfolio, all in exceptional facilities including studio labs, chemical darkrooms, woodworking shops and individual studios.

If drawing and painting is your focus, you’ll hone your skills in a variety of media, developing increasingly complex and accomplished work. In the graphic design emphasis, you’ll explore the complexities of typography, visual relationships and composition in real-world context. If you choose 艺术教育, you’ll work closely with faculty in both the 艺术 and Education Departments to refine your creativity and classroom management skills.

Take the Next Step

你知道吗??

The Gamma Ray 艺术 Club is a social organization that serves Carson-Newman art majors and other students interested in the visual arts. The club meets for meals, movies, art critiques and other casual events. Gamma Ray usually hosts several public events each year in which students sell their artworks.

The Warren 艺术 Department also has two galleries. C-N typically host 10-12 exhibitions of student artwork and the work of invited professional artists each year in campus’ two galleries.
